New Assistant Chief Position for Aitkin

At a Aitkin City Council meeting, Police Chief Tim Catlin requested the creation of a second assistant chief position within the department, which the council approved unanimously.

The Department is not adding the position but rather adding supervisory responsibilities to an existing employee. The responsibilities will be given to two assistants who will rotate in opposite shifts, so Chief Catlin will always have someone on call if backup is needed. This will allow the department to have a person available to attend events.

This position will also enable existing employees an opportunity for promotion within the department. The personnel committee has met twice to discuss the request. The hiring process is defined by the union contract.
