MnDOT taking comments on District 1 Freight plan

The Minnesota Department of Transportation District 1 has completed their freight transportation plan and is now taking public comments through November 1st.

MnDOT’s District 1 covers almost a quarter of Minnesota’s land area with 8 counties including Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, Pine, and St Louis. The extensive network of freight transportation includes I-35, Highways 2, 53, and 169, major rail lines owned by the Canadian National and Burlington Northern Santa Fe, and ports in Duluth, Two Harbors, and Silver Bay. The system supports the safe and efficient movement of iron ore, timber, and manufactured goods, such as metal and paper products.

MnDOT is seeking public comments in hopes of attracting new businesses and enable others to grow their presence in northeast Minnesota. Public comments can be sent until November 1st to MnDOT Freight Planner Andrew Andrusko by email or call 651-366-3644 or District 1 Planning director Bryan Anderson by email or call 218-725-2794.
