DNR hosting meeting on Rum River State Forest trails
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is inviting the public to the Onamia Lions Community Center for a meeting on proposed changes to the recreational trail systems in the Rum River State Forest and nearby state forest lands. The meeting will be Monday, October 21st from 6-8pm.
Proposed changes include adding 5.9 miles of off-highway motorcycle, 5.1 miles of ATV Class 1/off-highway motorcycle, and 1.1 miles of off-road vehicle trails. The forest is classified as “limited” with respect to motor vehicle use, which means that OHV’s may only use forest roads and trails that are posted open. The DNR does not propose changing the “limited” classification.
Comments from the meeting and during the open comment period, which ends November 4th at 4:30pm, will be used to inform the DNR’s decision on whether to make any changes to the current trail uses in the area. Written comments may be submitted by fax at 651-297-1157, emailing the DNR, or by mailing Joe Unger, DNR Parks and Trails, 500 Lafayette Road, St Paul, MN 55155-4039.
