Two area Seniors receive Deerwood Technologies scholarship
Deerwood Technologies announced the recipients of their 500-dollar scholarships given annually to two area graduating seniors this week.
Tucker Ringhand of Crosby-Ironton High School and Alana Huppert of Aitkin High School were named the 2020 recipients and both plan to attend higher education institutions.
In order to qualify for Deerwood Technologies’ Scholarship, a student must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or better. Applicants are also asked to submit an essay of 100 words or less and answer the question: How can technology benefit disadvantaged individuals, societies, and countries. Applicants must also provide a list of their community involvement and volunteer activities. Once those are completed, an employee committee of “blind referees” selects annual recipients based on the student scholarship applications.
Deerwood Technologies’ scholarships are 100-percent funded through events, including recycling drives and fundraisers, promoted, coordinated, and staffed by employers and their families. Scholarship payments will be issued to the institution of choice after the student has successfully completed his or her first academic term.
