(Grand Rapids, MN) --- As adjustment continue for youth today with modified returns to school, lack of activities and time with friends, and the uncertainty of what lies ahead, ElderCircle and Fairview Community Health and Innovation of Grand Rapids are coming together for a free Youth Mental Health First Aid class on Thursday September 29th.
Youth Mental Health First Aid is a program that introduces the risk factors and warning signs of mental health illnesses and substance use disorders in youth. The program also builds understanding of their impact and reviews common support options.
The virtual course will use videos and simulations to demonstrate how to offer initial help in a mental health crisis, and to connect people to the appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-care help.
The course is designed for adults who regularly interact with adolescents ages 12-18, including teachers, school staff, coaches, youth group leaders, parents, or anyone interested in increasing their mental health literacy about youth.
Online registration for the course needs to be done by Thursday, September 17th or email for more information. The Youth Mental Health First Aid virtual class will be Tuesday, September 29th from 1-5pm.
