McGregor man charged after child shot with BB gun
On the night of February 10, 2020, an Aitkin County Sheriff’s Office deputy was in the Riverwood Healthcare Center emergency room on another matter when a seriously injured 2 ½ year old child was brought into the emergency room by his mother. The child had been in the care of his father when he suffered a BB gun shot to his eye. He was subsequently airlifted to the University of Minnesota for care. An investigation ensued into the matter of the child’s injury and on February 13, 2020, a search warrant was executed at 320 Kirsch St. N.E., in McGregor, where the child and his parents live. Resulting from the search warrant was the arrest of Dale Vernon Preston, 38, father of the injured child.
On February 14, 2020, Preston was arraigned before the Honorable Judge David Hermerding on the following charges:
2 counts Felony Assault in the 3rd Degree
1 count Felony Child Endangerment
1 count Felony Child Endangerment – Substantial Harm
1 count Felony Store Methamphetamine Paraphernalia in the Presence of Child
1 count Gross Misdemeanor Controlled Substance 5th Degree Possession
1 count Misdemeanor Domestic Assault – bodily harm
1 count Petty Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Bail has been set at $2,500 with conditions, Bond of $25,000 with conditions, or Bail / Bond at $75,000 with no conditions. Next hearing date is February 25, 2020.
